India's July tea output drops by a tenth to 164 m kgs on excess rains and floods impacting output in top two producing states of Assam and West Bengal, while production registered a growth of around 18 per cent in South India.

In Assam, the largest producing state, output dropped 13 per cent to 91.08 m kg during July 2026 over corresponding last year's 105 m kg. In neighboring West Bengal, tea production declined 14 per cent to 43.87 m kg (50.96 m kg). Also, in Darjeeling the output declined 15 per cent at 0.81 m kg (0.95 m kg) impacted by heavy rains.

The other tea producing states in North India saw an output decline by 16 per cent at 4.82 m kg (5.73 m kg). However, in South India, the production improved across all three states.

Across the country, CTC tea production stood at 143.10 m kg during July, while orthodox tea output was 18.76 m kg. Green tea production in the country stood at 2.47 m kg.
